Great July 7 photos. Notice the new security glass panels added to the interior side of Hoban's windows, especially visible in the State Dining Room and East Room photos. I guess it had to eventually happen in these anxious days.
Dennis, go to "What's New" July 7 (this site) and click on the link under the photo of the lady in the pink evening gown. This opens a photo collection of a White House dinner. Good pictures of the White House at "work".
I don't want the OO to be decorated as in the "West Wing" w/Martin Sheen...with that horrible valence running along the top with three sets of tied-back draperies....not good at all!
I really like the WW of the TV show the West Wing. I prefer the look of the old lobby which was much larger before they cut it in half to make room for more offices in real life.
But I prefer the look of the outer offices of the real WW compared to the TV show. And so when you look at what's left there's not a great deal of room to have an open bullpen environment. Derek hssn't posted them but I have some photos (not the best quality) of the National Security Advisors office and photos of the Press Secretary staff/bullpen areas and I think they look much better in reality.
Unrelated to this topic, Derek it may be cool to let everybody know that around 8:00am(est I believe) people may want to try to tune in to CNN or something like that to see George and Laura host the unveiling ceremony.
Okay, now I see the photos. I wonder what the occasion was. Ted Kennedy was there, along with other Democrats.
Question: How can the White House Museum website wrangle and invitation to the White House? Considering the fact that we know more about it than most folks, it hardly seems fair that we are not being recognized and invited in.
To Chris' point - he's right on. The lobby depicted in the The West Wing was modeled after Kennedy's lobby. I was in the West Wing recently, and it is very small by comparison. But they have more office space. Which is more important? It' a thoroughfare really, and no one sits around in there too long. Except the receptonist and the Secret Service guy.
Derek is already aware of this, I'm a Canadian. Getting an invitation for WHM members to come to the WH would be exciting, I just suspect they'd not allow foreigners. {crying on my pillow}
Well they could easily solve the space problem by expanding the WW to the north. MAke the north wall even with the colonade and you easily got yourself atleast a 15 foot extnesion to the building.
Don't worry. Clinton wanted to do something similar in 1993 - knock down walls in the WW, create a more "open" workspace - but history prevailed.

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but what are you talking about mb.? I don't have July 7 photos on my screen, where are they?

ReplyDeleteId say its about time. The west wing is rea.ly in need of a comploete renovation.
ReplyDeleteArchitects should watch old episodes of "West Wing" and take notes.

ReplyDeleteWell yea, maybe not the oval office, but the rest of the building could really use that bartlet touch.
ReplyDeleteThat way the West Wing will look more presidential, and less like the old house on main street that my lawyer works out of.

ReplyDeleteMaybe it will be live on the White House site?

Who could work on this?

ReplyDeleteI'd rather they overflow into the OEOB. That's what it's been used for anyways. I like the "square" the way it is.
