Barney reveals the briefing room

"Barney's Holiday Extravaganza" is available now on the White House website. In it, Barney has a run around the EEOB, ground and state floors of the Residence, the West Wing, and--briefly--the East Wing. Among other places, he visits the Press Briefing Room, which we see is still in quite a state of disarray. They seem to be opening up the windows on one side to full length. I think that's a shot of the basement where there are no windows. It'd be nice to have a look at those "Press Briefing Room Renovation" plans Barney's looking at....

  1. Did you notice that in the picture of Laura Bush standing by the Blue Room Tree (in the series that shows the pastry chef and the gingerbread White House, as well as children being entertained) that the Bellange sofa is not in the Blue Room. The McKim sofa of the TR renovation stands in its place. I wonder if its being fixed or reupholstered.

  2. While I'm a big fan of the architecture and the interior aspects of the building and to some degree the furnishings, I'm amazed at your knowledge of the furnishings Dennis.

  3. With regards to the Blue Room Christmas tree, I think the picture of the Tree on the Blue Room page of this website said Christmas 2005.

I'm quite sure it is not last year's tree as the 2005 Tree had lilies & crystal covering it.

  4. I think you're right. Not sure where I got that date originally, but I did a little more research and I believe it's from 2002, so I've marked it as such.

  5. Since I've been a fan of the White House for most of my life, I've spent a lot of time looking at photos, history, etc.

One good source about White House Furniture is Betty Monkman's
"The White House: Its Historic Furnishings and First Families.

I'm having trouble blogging under my name.
