I took a look at those photographs, and none of them seem to match White House interiors. Mrs. Coolidge could, conceivably, be on the third floor, but that's just a guess. The photo of Cal outside with rusticated stonework is probably not the White House. The only exterior at the White House that is rusticated is the base of the south portico, and that's curved. The pictures of Coolidge in an office environment could conceivaly be somewhere in the old West Wing, but I suspect not. Maybe his home in Northampton, MA? Chris
Coolidge is sitting outside the White House in a TR/McKim Blue Room Chair. The picture of him and Harding may have been taken in the West Wing, if one notes the details. Mrs. Coolidge? I don't know.
BTW, my brother went to Calvin Coolidge Junior High School!
I absolutely *love* the pic of Calvin in the Blue Room chair outside for a photo shoot! I have seen the finished photo somewhere. I may have to "appropriate" that image as my new desktop wallpaper. It's just too cool. Cal was quite the photo hound,no? Yes, that looks very much like it was taken in front of the South Portico.
That's a facinating pic of the summer East Room - curtains down, benches in muslin, but the chandeliers aren't bagged like that photo in Seale's "The President's House". Note the wooden cornices still up? I live it when the room is stripped down to the architecture that way.
Maybe the pic of Grace sittin' and knittin' was taken in their own house in New England? Or possibly a vacation house?
I stand corrected. (Actually I sit corrected.) The photo of Cal outside is outside the south portico. If you look carefully you can see the curve of the wall. Chris

Coolidge and Harding are sitting in the same room as the photo of Coolidge alone. Note the Fireplace.
ReplyDeleteLooking at the door behind Mrs. Coolidge could possibly put the photo on the 3rd floor. It was during Coolidge that the 3rd floor was expanded.
Good ol' Silent Cal Jr High, eh? Quiet school, I hear, and no good at track events.
