Oval Office 2008

Very nice photo of the Oval Office the other day, courtesy of Time's WH blog.

  1. I think it's the best designed O.O. since the late Mark Hampton's version for G.H.W. Bush!

  2. That pic should definitely go on the OO main page.

  3. I just don't like it. It is so blah. No color. Very boring. I was in the Oval during Clinton's time and although the red striped couches might have been too much, I prefer the blue, golds... these brown tones are too cowboy ish...

  5. I love it. I much prefer it to the Clinton decor.

  6. I have to agree with Steve Brawley that the current decor is a bit too "oatmeal" for me. My favorite was the Ford/Carter O.O. - or the Kennedy/Boudin/Red carpet office - the one JFK never got to see.

And the Resolute Desk looks different somehow. I've noticed that in several recent photos. I think they've either refinished it (a major "antique no-no"), or possibly conserved and/or cleaned it. It looks lighter and a little "off". Hmmmmmm...

Decor aside, you have to admit that it's an incredible room, architecturally. Eric Gugler did a fantastic job back in 1934!

  7. I liked Clinton's OO but this one is beautiful as well. It's just different.

  8. I really like the Bush I and Clinton Oval Offices. I have never been completely satisfied with the present version. It is, as john in nola said, too "oatmeal." It just doesn't stimulate my eye visually.

  9. Very Nice but the SimWhiteHouse Octant Office is better.

  10. I like the carpet , but the walls and fabrics are blah. The drapes are ugly.

  11. It's a dull, but respectable decor. Simple, but boring. No color. It has certainly looked better in the past. ie. The Clinton years. The other thing I am disappointed in is the Treaty room, used as the President's Second Floor Study. Again, dull, but respectable. I loved the red leather covered walls & dark bookcases. I hated they changed it, but I guess they had to "De-Clintonize" the WH.
