Charles Dickens goes to the White House

I pulled a few quotes from an account of Charles Dickens's visits to the White House quoted in the 1908 Inside History of the White House. They color the pages on the North Lawn, North Portico, Entrance Hall, and East Sitting Hall.

  1. The photo labled East Sitting Hall - Circa 1928 is actually the West Sitting Hall. One reason I say this is there are no stairs shown between the Sitting Hall and what would be the hallway by the Grand Staircase. Also, the Sitting Hall is furnished much more completely than the East Sitting Hall would be.
