I knew this would come in handy for something

I decided I can somewhat alleviate the site slowdown problem, at least for those who check this blog. I've uploaded nearly the entire site to 1ObservatoryCircle.com as a mirror.

It's still loading as of the moment, but keep an eye on it. Once the images get loaded, I'll go thru and fix things like broken navigation links (like links from the site to this blog, which of course isn't mirrored).

UPDATE: Actually, this is going to take hours. Please be patient.
UPDATE: Okay. All done. 1OC is practically an identical copy of WHM as of yesterday. WHM now has several main room pages and floor plan pages broken out into current and historical versions, as the Oval Office has been for some time.

Scannin'

I took a little time finally and scanned an article from a 1902 issue of The Outlook magazine called "The White House - The Plans for Its Reconstruction" and also the recent Architectural Digest spread of the Bush 2 renovation. Look for those soon.

I also scanned the floor plan of 1 Observatory Circle (the VP residence) from American Monarchy; so I'll create a mini-site for that soon, too.

The vice-president has some pretty nice porch furniture (pictured here, behind Bark Vader and Superdog) at the Navel Observatory the Naval Observatory.

Other presidential places

I mentioned at one time that I'd purchased Oneobservatorycircle.org and planned to do at least a few pages on the vice-president's residence (Wonkette recently posted some really juicy photos called—in typical Wonkette fashion—"Inside the Monster's Lair"), but I've also begun wondering about adding just a couple of pages about Air Force One (for which there are a good number of photos and even a pretty good diagram) and Camp David (for which there are some photos, but not a lot). I know these locations don't have the allure of the White House, but they seem like logical extensions of the WHM.

I'm personally kind of curious about the old Mayflower and other presidential yachts, too, but I don't think much in the way of photos or diagrams of them exist. I'm not very interested in Marine One or the presidential limos, since they are so small and utilitarian, but I know that some pretty good diagrams exist.

One Observatory Circle

I was chatting with a friend today about a funny web site, and something about it triggered me to think of another web site to create. I checked domain names and found that domains related to the vice-president's residence were--to my surprise--available, so I registered:

I had thought about creating a page or two about the residence of the vice-president--or, as I will now frequently call it, 1OC (official | Wikipedia)--but it had never occurred to me that the actual domain names would be available. The obvious thing now would be to create a site similar to White House Museum, altho there isn't nearly as much information available about it, nor history (nor interest, for that matter).

I also considered making a satirical web site like Whitehouse.net, that would satirize the vice-president by pretending to be his home page and blog ("Friday: Still missing Rummy,") but that would take a lot of time and acerbic wit, both of which I need to conserve for Tysto.com [warning: political opinion].
