White House: Behind Closed Doors

The History Channel sneaked up on me and aired Secret Access: Air Force One and The White House: Behind Closed Doors tonight. I managed to record them, but if you missed them, you can still order the DVDs (SA: AF1 and WH: BCD).

  1. Why would they air the show at 1:00AM? It was supposed to be a big deal (GMA). According to their website there really are no more scheduled times.

  2. Fantastic! Thanks for digging for the link. We Canadians don't get the History Channel. Ordering my copy today. Gotta wait until January but it's worth it.

Was the AF1 episode worth it or no different really than the NG doc from a few years ago?

  3. The AF1 episode from a few years ago (National Geographic?) was pretty drn good. Unfortunately, I did not see nor record either the AF1 or White House this week.

I guess I will just need to order them to find out. I am curious whether we get to see the presidential bedroom as it exists today? Maybe more of West Wing?

On a different subject, do we assume that we will see the new limo on inauguration day? It really doesn't look that different than Bush's current one. And, do we think Biden will get Bush's current limo (sort of a presidential hand-me-down system)?

  4. The HC White House documentary was fascinating. You've got to order the DVD if you didn't see it.

Colton, the documentary doesn't show the president's main bedroom but the Lincoln & Queens' Bedrooms are featured.

  5. 1 am was the last showing. I think the first showing was at 9 PM (all times Eastern). What I don't understand is why they'd only show it on one day. I don't find it anywhere else in the lineup.

The AF1 doc was fine, but focused a lot on the process and procedure that surrounds it, with a fairly limited tour.

  6. In my humble opinion, both shows were very disappointing. Lots of old stuff, mixed in with some very stale new stuff. I mean, it the Lincoln Bedroom really "behind the scenes?" What were the Keno Bros doing there? Are the Bushes planning on selling the Resolute Desk? What happened to the days of Charles Collingwood?

I'd save my pennies and wait to buy (And watch) the C-Span Extravaganza on five nights in early December. It took a year to film, they go behind the scenes and into areas that are REALLY off limits. You can go to C-SPAN now and see previews.

    Happy T-Day!
