New front page - doorway

I've put up a new front page: a visitor's picture of doorway from the East Room to the Green Room (at least, that's what I think it is), suggested by Pete. Thanks Pete!

  3. I really like the new front page as well. I do have a question on another topic that may sound odd, but I thought I'd ask. Why don't the third floor rooms of the White House have names associated with them. For instance, there's the Green Room, the Red Room, the East Room, the West Sitting Hall, etc., but the third floor has room numbers ... room 302, etc.

I also want to say that I enjoy this site VERY much! I try to visit every day to look for additional pictures, information, etc. This is a great resource .... for fans of American History and for students. Keep up the good work! We all appreciate it!

  4. All the rooms are numbered (for administrative purposes), but some have gained names thru frequent common use. But it's very informal, with a couple of exceptions (the Roosevelt Room, for one).

Some of the third floor rooms were named when the Kennedy's redecorated, but they didn't really stick.

  7. The view has to be into the Green Room. We can ignore the telltale green trim on the window treatment; the angle of the photograph has the camera pointing to the southwest. The Green Room is the only room possible from that vantage point. A photo taken at the same angle through the north doorway would reveal the south end of the well of the Grand Staircase which has no fenestration. (I got to use that word again!)
